West Florida Tops Mobile In Volleyball Action

PENSACOLA, Fla-- The University of Mobile volleyball team fell 0-3 (12-25, 14-25, 14-25) at NCAA-II affiliate University of West Florida.

Mobile (5-4) will next play at the SSAC Cross-Over Tournament at Spring Hill Friday-Saturday. The Lady Rams will battle Shorter University Friday, Sept. 16 at 5 pm.

West Florida controlled the match, out-hitting the Lady Rams .367 to .024.

Lisa Alms led Mobile with eight kills and a .375 attack percentage, while Kiara Gay added 7 kills.

Melody Tenney had nine digs to lead the Lady Rams, while Gay and Katy McCollister had eight digs apiece.

The first set saw the Argos jump out to an 8-1 lead on some early Mobile errors, and swell that lead to 20-7 before wrapping up the set.

Kills by Gay and Sara Van Wert gave Mobile a 4-0 advantage in the second set, but the Argos battled back to tie it up at 5-5. With Mobile up 6-5, UWF responded with an 8-0 run. With the score sitting 14-11 in favor of the home team, West Florida again went on a run, this time of the 5-0 variety to take control of the set.

Mobile again hung in there in the final set, trailing only 8-10 before West Florida responded with a 7-0 lead, before running away with the set and the match.
