Mobile Falls In Five Sets To SSAC Foe Belhaven

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile volleyball team fell 2-3 (25-21, 25-20, 21-25, 24-26, 12-15) to Southern States Athletic Conference foe Belhaven Tuesday evening.

Kiara Gay led the Lady Rams with 19 kills and 21 digs, while Lisa Alms added 11 kills and Melody Tenney had 10 kills, 11 digs and 36 assists.

Mobile held an 8-1 advantage in service aces, but also had a 13-7 advantage in service errors. Katy McCollister added 18 digs for Mobile, while Sara Van Wert paced the team with six blocks.

Taylor Williams led the Blazers with 18 kills on a .333 hitting percentage, while Christina Atwood added 10 kills and 9 blocks.

Mobile (6-7, 1-3) will travel to 24th-ranked Spring Hill College Thursday, Sept. 22 at 7 pm.

After Mobile took a 2-0 lead in the match, the Blazers used a couple of 4-0 spurts to take set No. 3. They went up 5-2 and then pushed a 14-11 lead to 18-11.

Belhaven again led for much of the 4th set before Mobile rallied to tie it up at 20-20. Belhaven went back up 23-20 on a couple of Mobile errors, but the Lady Rams battled right back and used a 4-0 run to get within one point of winning the set and the match. But, Belhaven finished it out on back-to-back Mobile attack errors.

In the final set, the Lady Rams went ahead 8-4 to start thanks to three kills from Gay, but the Blazers again answered with a run of five to take a one point lead. The teams battled back and forth to a 12-12 tie before Belhaven finished it off with three straight points to win it 15-12.
