No. 11 Lady Rams Roll Past Hawks 6-1 At Home

MOBILE, Ala-- The 11th-ranked University of Mobile women's soccer team opened Southern States Athletic Conference play by routing visiting Shorter University 6-1 Friday evening.

The Lady Rams (5-1-1, 1-0) will host 3rd-ranked Lee University Saturday, Sept. 24 at 5 pm.

Mobile out shot the Hawks 21-12, including a 13-6 edge in shots on target. Lorna Brownlie made five saves in goal for the Lady Rams.

The bulk of the scoring came in the opening half when Mobile held a 13-7 edge in shots taken. Jesslyn Fagundes started the scoring just three minutes into the contest when she received a deep feed from Kassie Ruff and knocked it home from point-blank range.

Shorter actually answered with their only goal of the game in the 8th minute, but Mobile closed out the half with three more unanswered tallies.

Brianna Simmons notched the game-winner in the 19th-minute, Christy Lachappelle scored on a feed from Fagundes in the 24th minute, and Fagundes recorded her second goal of the game in the 38th minute, thanks to a nice feed from Lachappelle.

The second half saw a pair of goals from Ruff in the 81st and 84th minutes, with Simmons recording the assist on both scores.
