UM Women Blast Dillard In GCAC Play

HATTIESBURG, Miss-- The 18th-ranked University of Mobile softball team swept a Gulf Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader from Dillard University Friday, winning 14-0 and 16-1 in a pair of run-rule victories.

 

Kamaron Strickland tossed a no-hitter in the opener, fanning 11 in 5 innings of work. She missed perfection due to an error from the Mobile defense.
 
On offense, Mobile pounded out 18 hits, while six batters had multi-hit afternoons. Desiree Truett finished 3-4 with 4 RBI, Holli McLeod finished 3-3 with 3 RBI, Nicole Walker was 3-3 with 2 runs scored, Erica Bracey finished 3-4 with 2 RBI and 2 doubles, Ally Scott scored 3 runs and collected 2 hits, and Korie Fontenot finished 2-4.
 
Mobile scored 9 in the 1st to set the tone, and then scored in every inning aside from the 5th and final frame. In that 1st inning, the Lady Rams sent 14 batters to the plate and got 9 runs on 9 hits, including five extra-base hits. Bracey had a triple and a double in the inning, while McLeod picked up two hits and drove in two. Truett went 2-2 with a double and 3 RBI in the frame.
 
Game two saw Mobile tally 16 runs on 15 hits, with Christie Soulis picking up the win by allowing 1 earned run on 2 hits in 5 innings of action. She struck out 9 and walked 1.
 
Dorlicia Martin finished 3-3 with 3 RBI, Jessica Swanson went 2-2 with 3 RBI, McLeod drove in three, Truett scored three runs, Jessica Palmer finished 2-2 with 2 RBI and Nicole Walker finished 2-2 for Mobile.
 
The Lady Rams plated 8 runs in the 1st inning and then two runs apiece in each subsequent frame.
Mobile sent 12 batters to the plate in the 1st inning to plate the 8 runs on 5 hits. Swanson had a 2-run double in the frame, while McLeod was on base twice and produced a 2run single.
 
Mobile (20-9, 4-0) next plays Southern Nazarene Saturday at 10 am and Grace College at 12 pm at the William Carey Round Robin in Hattiesburg, Miss.
