Lady Rams Drop Opener At Faulkner Invitational

MONTGOMERY, Ala-- The University of Mobile volleyball team jumped out to a 2-0 lead on Asbury University, but fell 2-3 (25-20, 25-21, 26-28, 22-25, 9-15) on day one of the Faulkner University Invitational Friday. Mobile (9-6) will face Martin Methodist today at 5:30 pm and then battle a pair of teams tomorrow on the final day of the invite. Kelly Sherling led Mobile with 20 kills, while Alyson Kovacs added 10 and hit .368.

Southern States Showcase Set to Air October 20

Norcross, Ga. - The Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC), which grew to sixteen member institutions on July 1, will add a new dimension in 2010, as the SSAC unveils its feature-based television show debuting on Wednesday, October 20 on SportSouth at 6 p.m. The “Southern States Showcase” will feature 18 thirty-minute weekly episodes on SportSouth (Fox regional sports network) reaching more than 10 million households. The show will air three times weekly across six southeastern states (Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee) beginning the week of October 18.

No. 11 Rams Battle No. 9 Blazers To Double OT Tie

JACKSON, Miss-- The 11th-ranked University of Mobile men's soccer team battled 9th-ranked Belhaven University to a 1-1 double-overtime tie in Southern States Athletic Conference action Wednesday evening. Mobile moves to 7-1-2, 0-0-1 on the season, while Belhaven sits at 11-1-1, 0-0-1. The Rams visit University of Texas-Brownsville Sunday, Oct. 10 at 5 pm. The tie snaps a five-game winning streak for Mobile, but the Rams still have a six-game unbeaten streak going.

No. 17 Mobile Falls At West Florida

PENSACOLA, Fla-- The 17th-ranked University of Mobile women's soccer team traveled to NCAA II power University of West Florida and lost 2-5 Tuesday evening. Mobile (5-4-1) hosts Reinhardt College Saturday, Oct. 9 at 1 pm. West Florida out shot Mobile 17-10 and jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening half. Tori Fish scored in the 10th minute, followed by Jodi-Ann Robinson in the 29th minute.

Lady Rams Dispose Of Belhaven In SSAC Play

JACKSON, Miss-- The University of Mobile volleyball team improved to 3-1 in SSAC West Division play with a 3-1 (25-17, 25-20, 15-25, 25-21) victory at Belhaven University Tuesday evening. Kelly Sherling led the Lady Rams with 13 kills, while Shea McBee added 8 kills with a .278 hitting percentage. Kaylee McGrew led with 16 assists, while Melody Tenney added 15. Charlotte Stutts produced 4 aces, while Katy McCollister led with 11 digs.

Lady Rams Fall To Georgetown College

Georgetown out-hit Mobile .250 to .158 overall and hit .333 in the first set and .244 in the final set. Christa Hicks led Mobile with 11 kills, while Kelly Sherling added 8 kills for the Lady Rams. Katy McCollister led the team with 18 digs, Kaylee McGrew finished with 15 assists and Disah Kolassiba finished with 5 blocks. Cathy Frank led Georgetown with 13 kills, Elizabeth Goodin finished with 32 assists and Kelsey Luckett added 11 kills.

No. 2 Lee University Too Much For Lady Rams

CLEVELAND, Tenn-- The University of Mobile volleyball team fell 0-3 (24-26, 15-25, 13-25) at No. 2 Lee University Saturday afternoon. Mobile just could not get its offense on track, hitting .019 for the game, compared to .245 for the Lady Flames. Lee also controlled the net with 12 blocks. Kelly Sherling led Mobile with 8 kills and 3 blocks, while Disah Kolassiba added 5 blocks for the Lady Rams. Melody Tenney led with 12 assists and 8 digs.

No. 12 Rams Defeat Shorter University 1-0

MOBILE, Ala-- The 12th-ranked University of Mobile men's soccer team shut out Shorter University 1-0 in NAIA action Friday evening. Mobile (7-1-1) visits Belhaven University Wednesday, Oct. 6 at 7 pm. The Rams kept the pressure on all game, finishing with a 22-6 edge in shots and 7-2 edge in shots on target. Jason Williams pitched a shutout with a pair of saves for Mobile.

Men's Golf Competes At Jim Redgate Invitational

MERIDIAN, Miss-- The University of Mobile men's golf team finished in 7th place at the Jim Redgate Invitational Tuesday. The tournament was hosted by Meridian Community College at the Briarwood Country Club's Par-72, 6928-yard course. The Rams carded a 55-over 919 (313, 305, 301) in the three-round event, while Wallace State CC won the tournament with an 11-over 875 (289, 293, 293).
