Qualifiers For 2012 NAIA Softball National Championship Released

GULF SHORES, Ala-- The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics officially released the field of 32 for the 2012 NAIA Softball National Championship, set for May 17-23 at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex. The University of Mobile receives the host berth to the tournament thanks to co-hosting the event with the Gulf Shores & Orange Beach Sports Commission. Twenty-three teams earned bids by winning conference tournaments and there are eight at-large selections. The University of Mobile (30-17) is making its 17th trip to the National Championship, which is second-most in the field, behind Oklahoma City at 26.

Pair Of Top-10 Teams Knock Lady Rams Out Of SSAC Tourney

COLUMBUS, Ga-- The 24th-ranked University of Mobile softball team was knocked out of the 2012 SSAC Tournament by a pair of Top-10 teams Saturday. No. 6 William Carey run-ruled Mobile 8-0 in five innings in the opener and 9th-ranked Shorter defeated the Lady Rams 7-2 in an elimination game. Mobile (30-17) will next compete at the 2012 NAIA Softball National Championship May 17-23 in Gulf Shores, Ala., at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex. In the opener, the Lady Crusaders used five Mobile errors to score five unearned runs, and Kelsey Jo Smith limited Mobile to three hits in five innings of work.

Lady Rams Rally Past No. 9 Hawks At SSAC Tourney

COLUMBUS, Ga-- The 24th-ranked University of Mobile Lady Rams rallied from a 1-6 deficit to defeat 9th-ranked Shorter University 10-8 on day one of the 2012 SSAC Softball Tournament. Mobile (30-15) will battle the winner of William Carey and Brewton-Parker Friday at 2 pm EST. The winner of that game will play at 6:30 pm Friday, while the loser will play an elimination game at 4 pm. Shorter surged ahead 6-1 after two innings thanks to four runs on five hits in the 1st and two runs on three hits in the 2nd.

Softball Players Earn SSAC Awards

MOBILE, Ala-- The Southern States Athletic Conference honored several University of Mobile student-athletes Thursday, with the release of the year-end softball awards. Brittany Dunson was named to the All-Conference Team. Dunson, a junior from Pensacola, Fla., leads UMobile with a .342 batting average and .400 on base percentage. She has started all 44 games, scoring 25 runs, driving in 18 and hitting a team-leading seven doubles. She has struck out only six times on the year. Alli Hall, a freshman from Pell City, Ala., was named to the All-Division Team and All-Freshman Team.

No. 23 Lady Rams Split At Faulkner

MONTGOMERY, Ala-- The 23rd-ranked University of Mobile softball team split a Southern States Athletic Conference doubleheader at Faulkner University Tuesday. Mobile took the opener 3-1 and then fell 5-2 in the finale. The Lady Rams (29-15, 11-12) will be the #3 seed out of the SSAC West and face 9th-ranked Shorter University (42-9, 22-5) Thursday at 4 pm at the 2012 SSAC Tournament. The tournament will be held at South Commons Park in Columbus, Ga. It is a double-elimination tournament with the championship game set for Saturday at 2 pm, or 4 pm if necessary.

No. 6 Lady Crusaders Take Two From UMobile

HATTIESBURG, Miss-- The 6th-ranked William Carey University Lady Crusaders swept the 24th-ranked University of Mobile in SSAC softball action Monday. William Carey picked up an 8-0 run-rule victory in a six-inning opener and took the finale 5-4. Mobile (28-14, 10-11) will visit Faulkner Tuesday at 5 and 7 pm. The Lady Crusaders scored eight runs on 12 hits in the opener, scoring in four of six innings.

No. 18 Warhawks Sweep DH From No. 24 Lady Rams

MONTGOMERY, Ala-- The 18th-ranked Auburn University-Montgomery Warhawks swept the 24th-ranked University of Mobile in SSAC softball action Friday. Mobile dropped game one 3-2 in 10 innings and dropped the finale 6-1. Mobile (28-12, 10-9) will visit 6th-ranked William Carey Monday at 4 pm for a doubleheader. In the opener, the Warhawks scored two in the bottom of the 10th to win the game. Kaci Pribanic singled home Jessica Rogers with one out in the top of the 10th to put the Lady Rams ahead 2-1.

No. 23 Lady Rams Sweep DH From Rival Badgers

MOBILE, Ala-- The 23rd-ranked University of Mobile Lady Rams swept rival Spring Hill by scores of 2-1 and 3-2 in SSAC softball action Monday. Mobile (28-10, 10-7) visits 19th-ranked Auburn University-Montgomery April 20 at 4 pm for a twin bill. Game one saw Mobile's Kamaron Strickland and Spring Hill's Linsey Dickerson put up 0's through five innings before the Lady Rams pushed across two runs in the 6th. Jessica Rogers was hit by a pitch with two outs to start the rally and Milagros Lozada followed with a double to put runners at 2nd and 3rd.

Rams Ready For Big Games Versus Badgers

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile softball and baseball teams will kick off the week with contests against the cross town rival Spring Hill College Badgers. The 23rd-ranked softball team will visit the Badgers Monday, April 16 at 2 pm for a Southern States Athletic Conference doubleheader. Baseball will host a non-conference game against Spring Hill Tuesday, April 17 at 3 pm. The Lady Rams are 26-10 overall and 8-7 in SSAC action, while Spring Hill is 17-21 and 7-9.

No. 23 Lady Rams Sweep Visiting Blazers

MOBILE, Ala-- The 23rd-ranked University of Mobile softball team finished out its 2012 home slate by sweeping Belhaven University by 5-2 and 3-1 scores Friday. Mobile (26-10, 8-7) will visit Spring Hill College April 17 for a 12 pm doubleheader. In the opener, Mobile capitalized on a pair of late Belhaven miscues, scoring three runs in the 6th to go ahead 5-2. An out and error started the inning and then Korie Fontenot doubled to put runners at 2nd and 3rd. Ally Scott drove home the first run, and then an errant throw brought home two more.
