Lady Rams Win 3 To Stay Alive At SSAC Tournament

COLUMBUS, Ga-- The 18th-ranked University of Mobile softball team continued to perform with their backs against the wall Friday, winning two more elimination games at the 2011 SSAC Tournament. Mobile (34-16) defeated Faulkner University 7-6 and stomped Auburn University-Montgomery 10-4 in the final game of the day. Faulkner built a 6-1 lead after 5 innings of play, but the 18th-ranked Lady Rams tallied 2 runs in the 6th and 4 in the 7th to rally for the win.

Lady Rams Run-Rule Columbia At SSAC Tournament

COLUMBUS, Ga-- The 18th-ranked University of Mobile softball team stayed alive at the 2011 SSAC Tournament by run-ruling Columbia College 13-2 in 5 innings. Kamaron Strickland (12-8) got the win by limiting Columbia to 2 runs on 7 hits in 5 innings of work. Columbia's Samantha Santoro took the loss after being tagged for 7 runs on 10 hits in 4 innings.

No. 11 Brenau Tops Mobile In SSAC Tourney Opener

COLUMBUS, Ga-- The 18th-ranked University of Mobile softball team fell 8-7 in 8 innings to 11th-ranked Brenau University on day one of the 2011 SSAC Championships Thursday. Mobile (31-16) will face Columbia College in an elimination game Friday at 10 am. Jenny Shepard picked up the win for Brenau with 5 innings of 2-run, 4-hit relief, while Kamaron Strickland took the loss for Mobile in the complete game effort. She gave up 6 earned runs on 15 hits in 7.1 innings of work.

Ten Lady Rams Honored By SSAC

MONTGOMERY, Ala-- Ten University of Mobile student-athletes were honored by the Southern States Athletic Conference with the release of the 2011 SSAC Softball Awards Thursday. Senior pitcher Victoria Buie and junior shortstop Mayles Rodriguez were named to the 2011 All-Conference Team. There are 19 members of the honorary squad. Buie sports a 17-5 record on the season, with a 1.69 ERA and 174 strikeouts in 157 innings of work. She holds opponents to a .194 batting average and has 14 complete games. Rodriguez has started all 46 games, and sports a .389 batting average with 41 runs scored, 35 RBI, 13 doubles, 7 homers and a .511 on base percentage.

No. 2 William Carey Sweeps No. 8 Mobile

MOBILE, Ala-- The 8th-ranked University of Mobile softball team dropped a SSAC West doubleheader to 2nd-ranked William Carey University by scores of 4-3 and 5-0 Thursday. Mobile (31-15, 11-9) will next play at the 2011 Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament April 28-30 in Columbus, GA. The opener saw William Carey tally 3 runs in the 1st inning to back Anna Ard, who picked up the complete-game victory, allowing 3 earned runs on 6 hits in 7 innings, while fanning 7 and walking 1. Kamaron strickland took the loss after allowing 4 runs on 8 hits in 7 innings of work.

Badgers Sweep Twin Bill From No. 8 Lady Rams

MOBILE, Ala-- The 8th-ranked University of Mobile softball team dropped both ends of a SSAC West doubleheader to Spring Hill College by identical 3-1 scores Tuesday evening. Mobile (31-13, 11-7) will host 2nd-ranked William Carey Thursday at 4 pm for a twin bill to close out the regular season. In game one, Samantha Brooks went the distance for the win and made Stephanie Fair's 3-run 1st-inning home run stand up in the 3-1 decision. Brooks limited Mobile to 1 run on 3 hits and worked around 5 walks.

No. 7 Lady Rams Split With No. 12 Belhaven

MOBILE, Ala-- The 7th-ranked University of Mobile softball team earned a split with 12th-ranked Belhaven University Saturday by taking the finale 2-1 after falling 4-0 in the SSAC West opener. Mobile (31-11, 11-5) will host rival Spring Hill College Tuesday, Apr. 19 at 4 pm for a twin bill. Kamaron Strickland went the distance in the finale to earn the win. She limited Belhaven to 1 run on 7 hits, while walking only 1. Sarah Burns took the loss after giving up 2 runs on 7 hits in 6.1 innings. She fanned 8.

No. 7 Lady Rams Fall In SSAC Twin Bill

MOBILE, Ala-- The 7th-ranked University of Mobile softball team lost both ends of a conference doubleheader to Auburn University-Montgomery Wednesday evening by scores of 14-8 and 8-3, despite Mobile leading at the start of the 6th inning in both games. Mobile (30-10, 10-4) hosts 12th-ranked Belhaven for a conference twin bill Saturday at 12 pm. The opener saw the Lady Rams build an 8-1 lead after 6 innings of play, only to have the Lady Senators score 7 in the 7th to tie it and 6 in the 8th to win it. Taylor Burt threw 166 pitches in the complete-game win for AUM, while Kamaron Strickland took the loss in relief for Mobile.

No. 10 Lady Rams Sweep SSAC Rival Faulkner

MOBILE, Ala-- The 10th-ranked University of Mobile softball team swept SSAC West foe Faulkner University by scores of 8-3 and 9-5 Monday to improve to 30-8 overall and 10-2 in the conference. Mobile will host 20th-ranked Auburn University-Montgomery for a conference doubleheader Wednesday, Apr. 13 at 4 pm. Heather Smith staked Faulkner to a 3-0 lead in the top of the 3rd in the opener with a 3-run home run, but the Lady Rams used a 6-run 4th to bounce back. Victoria Buie picked up the victory by fanning 10 Lady Eagle batters in the complete game effort. All runs were unearned and she allowed only 5 hits.

SSAC To Broadcast Monday's Softball DH

MOBILE, Ala-- Monday's SSAC West softball doubleheader between the 10th-ranked University of Mobile and Faulkner University will be the featured broadcast by the Southern States Athletic Conference. The SSAC will broadcast the two games for free at www.ssacsports.com. Fans will be able to watch and listen to the action live. The Lady Rams of Mobile enter with a 28-8 overall record and an 8-2 conference mark, while Faulkner is 20-13 overall and 6-6 in conference play. The Lady Eagles have won four straight and are receiving votes in the latest NAIA Top-25.
