Rams Grab 10-2 Win From Badgers

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile baseball team bounced back Sunday and trounced Spring Hill College 10-2 in the series finale. Mobile (3-6) will host University of New Orleans TUesday at 2 pm. Ryan Hines limited the Badger bats to 1 run on 6 hits in 7 innings of work, while fanning 5 and walking 1. The lefty needed only 85 pitches to work through the 7 innings.

Badgers Take Twin Bill From Rams

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile baseball team dropped a doubleheader at Spring Hill Friday, falling 2-5 in a 7-inning game and 3-11 in a 9-inning contest. Mobile (2-6, 0-2) and Spring Hill (5-2, 2-0) will finish the series with a 12 pm contest Saturday. Michael Moch picked up the win in the opener for Spring Hill, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits in 6.1 innings of work. Michael King took the loss after allowing 2 earned runs (5 runs) on 8 hits in 6 innings of work.

Rams Fall 3-9 At No. 2 Argos

PENSACOLA, Fla-- The University of Mobile baseball team fell 9-3 to NCAA-II 2nd-ranked University of West Florida Wednesday evening. Dan Husum picked up the win for West Florida with 1 inning of 1-run relief. Ryan Hines took the loss after allowing 5 runs on 5 hits in 1 inning of work. The UMobile offense managed only five hits in the game, and freshman first baseman Braxton Hamil had three of those after going 3-for-4 with 1 RBI and 1 run at the dish. Ryne Phillips finished 1-for-2 at the plate with two walks.

Walks Plague Rams As Tornadoes Sweep DH

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile baseball team dropped a pair of 7-inning games to visiting Talladega College Saturday at Jacobs Field, falling 4-8 in the opener and 2-4 in the finale. Mobile (2-3) visits West Florida Feb. 15 at 5 pm. Ryan Hines was tagged with the loss in the opener after allowing 4 runs on 7 walks and 0 hits in 1.1 innings of work. Rams pitchers allowed 9 walks and 6 hits in the game.  At the dish, Cameron White led the Rams with a 2-for-3 day, while Ryne Phillips finished 1-for-4 with 2 RBI.

Baseball Takes Series Opener From Tornadoes

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile baseball team used some 2-out 7th-inning magic to defeat Talladega College 6-3 in the series-opener Friday. The game was called with one out in the top of the 9th due to rain. Mobile (2-1) hosts the Tornadoes for a noon doubleheader Saturday. Michael King got the win for the Rams with 8 innings of work, allowing 2 earned runs on 8 hits, while fanning 5 and walking none. Gabriel Viso took the loss for Talladega after allowing 3 earned runs on 7 hits in 6.2 innings of work.

UMobile Rams Split Season-Opening DH

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile opened the 2012 season by splitting a non-conference doubleheader with visiting Loyola University Tuesday, taking the opener 2-1 in 9 innings before falling 4-3 in the 7-inning finale. Mobile (1-1) will host Talladega for a three-game series, beginning Friday at 2 pm. The opener saw the Rams use five pitchers to pick up the win, with Shane Ikner working 1 inning of scoreless relief to pick up the victory. The staff fanned 12 Wolfpack hitters.

Mahoney Signs With Gateway Grizzlies

SAUGET, Ill-- Former University of Mobile baseball player Sam Mahoney became the 30th UMobile baseball player to sign a professional contract when he inked with the Gateway Grizzlies of the Frontier League. In his lone season with the Rams after transferring from Ohio University, the catcher hit .345, slugged .515 and drove in a team-leading 41 runs. He also posted a .454 on-base percentage and led the team with 14 doubles.

Kyle McPherson Named Minor League Pitcher of the Year

PITTSBURGH -- The Pirates handed out their annual Minor League awards on Friday, with outfielder Robbie Grossman earning Player-of-the-Year honors and Kyle McPherson being named Pitcher of the Year. McPherson, 23, ended the season as the organizational leader with 142 strikeouts. No Pirates Minor Leaguer had amassed that many since 2006

Former Ram Making His Mark With The Florida Marlins

MIAMI, Fla-- In case you missed it, former University of Mobile baseball player Joe Espada is in his second season as a coach with the Florida Marlins. Espada served as third-base and infield coach last season, and is the team's third-base/outfield coach this year. The former second-round draft pick in the MLB Amateur Draft is Mobile's career batting average leader and holds the top two single-season batting averages in school history.
