MOBILE, Ala-- The 25th-ranked Belhaven University Blazers topped the University of Mobile 6-3 in Southern States Athletic Conference action Saturday morning. Mobile (3-1, 1-1) will next play at Spring Hill March 27 at 4 pm. Belhaven rallied for a win at No. 3 doubles and took No. 2 doubles by an 8-1 margin, but the Rams' No. 1 doubles tandem of Fernando Paiva and Karlis Stonis rallied for a 9-8 (7-5) win to salvage a point.

LAGRANGE, Ga-- The University of Mobile men's tennis team blanked LaGrange College 6-0 in non-conference action Wednesday. Mobile (3-0) hosts Loyola University Saturday at 10 am. The doubles teams of Paiva-Stonis, Correa-Marques and Tristao-Arcaro blanked each of their opponents to set the Rams up with a 3-0 lead.

TUSKEGEE, Ala-- The University of Mobile men's tennis team rolled past NCAA-II Tuskegee University Tuesday evening. Mobile (2-0) visits LaGrange College Wednesday at 4 pm. The doubles tandems of Paiva-Stonis, Arcaro-Tristao and Correa-Marques put Mobile ahead 3-0, and the Rams put it away in singles action. The only close matches came at No. 2 singles with Karlis Stonis taking a 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 win and No. 3 singles where Lucas Tristao won 7-5, 6-3.

NEW ORLEANS, La-- The University of Mobile men's tennis team opened the 2012 season with a shutout 9-0 victory over SSAC foe Loyola University Saturday in New Orleans. The Rams breezed through doubles play, taking two matches 8-2, to take a 3-0 advantage. In singles action, Mobile dropped only one set, but Fernando Paiva came back to take No. 1 singles 4-6, 7-5 (10-8), while the 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 6th slots lost only seven games total.

MOBILE, Ala—The University of Mobile had three tennis players named 2011 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes, the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics announced. Jesus Urmeneta was honored on the men’s side, while Rachel Hartley and Nancy Machen were honored from the Lady Rams’ roster. In order to be nominated by an institution’s head coach, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status to qualify for this honor.

MOBILE, Ala—The 9th-ranked Vanguard University Lions blanked the University of Mobile men’s tennis team 9-0 on day one of the 2011 NAIA Men’s Tennis National Championship at the Mobile Tennis Center. Vanguard (8-13) advances to round two Wednesday at 9 am, while Mobile sees its season end with a 6-8 mark. The tournament will conclude with the NAIA National Championship match May 21.

MOBILE, Ala—The University of Mobile men’s tennis team will open play at the 2011 NAIA Men’s Tennis National Championship Tuesday, May 17 at 9 am against 9th-ranked Vanguard University. Mobile (6-7) is making its 12th trip to postseason play and 4th-straight since the program was reinstated in 2008. The Rams will look to snap a string of 3-straight first-round losses, including back-to-back defeats at the hands of Point Loma Nazarene. PLNU is in the same conference as Vanguard, the Golden States Athletic Conference. Mobile earned the host bid to the tournament.

KANSAS CITY, Mo—The NAIA released the bracket for the 2011 NAIA Men’s Tennis National Championship Tuesday, and the University of Mobile will face Vanguard University out of California in the opening round. The 31st annual event will take place May 17-21 at the Mobile Tennis Center. Opening round matches will start at 9 am for the men.

KANSAS CITY, Mo—The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics released the 24 qualifiers for the 2011 NAIA Men’s Tennis National Championship, and the University of Mobile received the host berth to the tournament. The tournament will take place May 17-21 at the Mobile Tennis Center. The Rams are making their 4th-straight trip to nationals and their 12th appearance overall. Mobile’s men’s program won the National Championship in 1993 and 1997.
