2012-13 SSAC Women's Basketball Rankings Released

NORCROSS, Ga. – The Southern States Athletic Conference released the 2012 Women’s Basketball Coaches Preseason Poll, on Friday, November 2nd. The coaches poll consisted of the head coach from each institution ranking the SSAC overall and their schools division. Lee University topped the ranks with 196 points followed by Faulkner with 173 and Loyola in a close third with 170. Divisionally, Lee topped the East with 55 points followed by Emmanuel with 45. In the West, Faulkner narrowed out Loyola by a margin of three points, 34 and 31 respectively.

Schedule Announced For Saturday's Soccer & Basketball Games

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile has announced game times for Saturday's men's and women's soccer SSAC Tournament games, and altered the times of Saturday's season-opening basketball games. Women's soccer will host Truett-McConnell at 1 pm, followed by the men hosting Lee University at 3 pm. Women's basketball will host Fisk University at 5 pm, followed by men's basketball battling Fisk at 7 pm.

Former Lady Ram Daphnee Frieson Signs Pro Contract

MOBILE, Ala-- Former University of Mobile women's basketball player and Mobile native Daphnee Frieson has signed a professional contract with CS Universitatea Cluj Napoca, a Romanian Division A team. "I was very excited when I got the offer," Frieson said. "I've always wanted to play pro ball, and God answered my prayers." A 6-4 post player, Frieson played the 2011-12 season at UMobile after previously playing at Ole Miss (2006-08) and Stetson (08-10). She prepped at Vigor and Satsuma.

UMobile Hires Billy Evans As Head Women's Basketball Coach

MOBILE, Ala- The University of Mobile has announced the hiring of Billy Evans as the school's new head women's basketball coach. He brings 11 seasons of coaching experience at Southern States Athletic Conference rival Belhaven University. "We are excited to bring Billy on board here at UM," Athletic Director Joe Niland said. "His enthusiasm and dedication to the game has been evident in what he has been able to do at Belhaven.  We know with the resources he has to work with here at UM, that he can continue the success he had at Belhaven."

Lady Rams' Alice Honnery Earns Honorable Mention All-America Honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo-- Alice Honnery was named Honorable Mention NAIA All-America for the second-straight year Wednesday with the release of the 2012 Division I Women's Basketball teams by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. A First Team, Second Team, Third Team and Honorable Mention selections were chosen by the All-America committee. A senior post player from New South Wales, Australia, Honnery led the Lady Rams with 15.3 points, 10.86 rebounds, 2.64 assists, 1.21 steals and 3.93 blocks per game. She led the NAIA in total blocks with 110 and blocks per game, was 2nd with a .577 field goal percentage and was 9th in rebounds per contest.

UM Women's Bball Coach Michael Berry Resigns

MOBILE, Ala—The University of Mobile has announced that women’s basketball Head Coach Michael Berry has resigned his post at the school to pursue other interests. A nationwide search for a new coach will begin immediately. After taking over as the head man during the 2007-08 season, Berry compiled a 67-68 mark with the Lady Rams. Prior to becoming head coach, Berry spent four years as an assistant with the Lady Rams and helped the team to an 86-41 record and two NAIA National Tournament appearances.

Trio Of Women's Basketball Players Earn Academic Honors

FRANKFORT, Ky.-- University of Mobile women's basketball players Daphnee Frieson, Alice Honnery and Kelsie Ruff were named 2012 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes Monday. The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics announced that 127 Division 1 Women's Basketball student-athletes were honored. In order to be nominated by an institution’s head coach, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status to qualify for this honor.

Women's Basketball All-Conference Awards Released

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile women's basketball team had several student-athletes honored with the release of the 2011-12 SSAC Women's Basketball All-Conference Teams and year-end awards Wednesday. Senior post player Alice Honnery was named SSAC Defensive Player of the Year, All-Conference and Musco Lighting Champion of Character. Honnery led the NAIA with 110 blocks and 3.93 blocks per contest, ranked 5th with a .577 field goal percentage and 9th with 10.9 rebounds per game. She also averaged a team-high 15.3 points, 2.6 assists and 1.2 steals per game.

UMobile Women Fall To #23 Loyola In Season Finale

NEW ORLEANS, La-- The University of Mobile women's basketball team dropped a 73-62 decision at 23rd-ranked Loyola University-New Orleans to close out the 2011-12 season Saturday afternoon. Alice Honnery totaled 20 points and 14 rebounds for Mobile, while Daphnee Frieson finished with 20 points and 9 boards. Morgan Melancon added 11 points for the Lady Rams. Keiva Council led the Wolfpack with 29 points, 9 boards and 8 assists, while Jasmine Brewer tallied 16 points.
