UM Men's Tennis Earns Bid To National Tournament

KANSAS CITY, Mo-- The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics released the qualifiers for the 59th Annual NAIA Men's Tennis National Championship, and the University of Mobile received the host bid. Twenty-four teams will compete for the national championship May 18-22 at the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center. Defending National Champion Fresno Pacific leads the pack, while Azusa Pacific, Embry-Riddle and Lewis-Clark State Idaho are making their 11th-consecutive appearance in the tournament.

No. 10 Blazers End Rams' Season At GCAC Tournament

RIDGELAND, Miss-- Last year, Belhaven faced Mobile for the 2009 GCAC Baseball Tournament Championship, but this year it was an elimination game on day two of the 2010 tournament, and the Rams fell to the 10th-ranked Blazers 14-9. Belhaven (40-14) stays alive, while the Rams finish the season with a 20-34 overall record. The Blazers jumped out to a 9-0 lead after 3.5 innings of work, and the Rams rallied to tie it up 9-9. But, the Belhaven bats stayed hot through the 6, 7 and 8th innings and Paul Faulkenberry held down the Mobile bats in relief to grab the win.

No. 12 Pilots Top Rams At GCAC Tournament

RIDGELAND, Miss-- The 12th-ranked LSU-Shreveport Pilots topped the University of Mobile 10-4 at the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference baseball tournament Thursday. Mobile (20-33) will face the Belhaven - Loyola loser Friday, May 7 at 11 am in an elimination game. Justin Ennis (10-0) got the win for the Pilots after scattering 10 hits over 7 innings, while limiting Mobile to 4 runs. Chris Peacock (6-6) took the loss for Mobile after giving up 8 earned runs on 8 hits in 5.2 innings of work.

Rice Named GCAC Women's Golfer Of The Week

HATTIESBURG, Miss-- Maegan Rice was named the GCAC Women's Golfer of the Week for the week ending May 2 as announced by the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Monday. The senior from Florence, Ala., carded a 7-over 151 (78, 73) at the NAIA Unaffiliated Qualifier in Columbus, Ga. to win the tournament and qualify for the 2010 NAIA Women's Golf National Championships for the 4th-straight year.

UM Softball Players Honored By GCAC

MOBILE, Ala-- The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference released the 2010 All-GCAC Softball team and the 2010 GCAC All-Tournament team Monday, and the University of Mobile had three athletes chosen to each honorary squad. Leslie Pickette, Kirstyn Joiner and Victoria Buie were named All-GCAC, while Pickette, Joiner and Desiree Truett were named to the All-Tournament team.

UM Baseball Ready For GCAC Tournament

RIDGELAND, Miss-- The University of Mobile baseball team is finished with the 2010 regular season and will begin play at the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament May 6 at Smith-Wills Stadium in Ridgeland, Miss. The tournament kicks off May 5 with a play-in game between the bottom two seeds Loyola University-New Orleans and Tougaloo College. Mobile will be the 5th seed in the field and face No. 2 seed and 12th-ranked LSU-Shreveport Thursday, May 6 at 2:30 pm.

2010 All-GCAC Women's Tennis Team Released

MOBILE, Ala-- The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference released the All-GCAC Women's Tennis Team Saturday, and the University of Mobile had three athletes honored. Mobile native Rachel Hartley was named All-GCAC at No. 3 singles, while the duo of Claudia Borges and Nancy Machen was named All-GCAC at No. 3 doubles. Borges is a native of Compinas, Brazil, while Machen is a native of Boaz, Ala.

No. 12 Pilots Finish Sweep Of Mobile

SHREVEPORT, La-- The 12th-ranked LSU-Shreveport Pilots scored 15 runs on 12 hits to defeat the University of Mobile 15-3 in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference action Saturday. The Rams (20-32, 13-21) and the Pilots (42-10, 25-7) will await the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament May 5-10 at Smith-Wills Stadium in Ridgeland, Miss.

No. 12 Pilots Take Twin Bill From Rams

SHREVEPORT, La-- The 12th-ranked LSU-Shreveport Pilots took a Gulf Coast Athletic Conference twin bill from the University of Mobile baseball team by scores of 5-4 and 18-1 Friday. Mobile (20-31, 13-20) and LSUS (41-10, 24-7) finish the series with an 11 am contest Saturday. Next up will be the GCAC Tournament at Smith-Wills Stadium in Ridgeland, Miss. May 5-10.

Men's Tennis Falls In GCAC Semifinals

NEW ORLEANS, La-- The University of Mobile men's tennis team fell in the semifinals at the 2010 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament Friday at the University of New Orleans Tennis Center. The Rams started the day by defeating Tougaloo College 5-0, and then fell to William Carey 5-1 in the semifinals. Mobile ends the season with a 10-5 record and will await word from the NAIA to see if it gets the host bid to the 2010 NAIA Men's Tennis National Championship May 18-22 at the Copeland-Cox Center.
