Times Daily Feature On UM's Maegan Rice

Maegan Rice has always been a good golfer, just not a great one. Until now, that is. Rice enjoyed a nice high school career at Central and signed a golf scholarship with the University of Mobile in 2006. During her first two years, Rice played well for the Rams, averaging in the high 70s. Like a light bulb being turned on in her head, Rice said something clicked between her sophomore and junior years. And now, with her college career winding down, Rice has a renewed vigor for a possible career in golf.

Mobile Baseball Splits GCAC Doubleheader At Loyola

WESTWEGO, La-- Saturday was a day of highs and lows for the University of Mobile baseball team as they split a conference doubleheader at Loyola University-New Orleans. Loyola took the opening game 9-1, but Mobile rebounded to take the finale 9-0. Mobile (17-23, 10-15) travels to Auburn University-Montgomery for a doubleheader Tuesday, April 6 at 3 pm. Jarrin Brister scattered 7 hits over 8 shutout innings to grab the win in the finale, while striking out and walking 2. Offensively, the Rams pounded out 16 hits and put up tallies in five of the nine innings.

UM Softball Splits Twin Bill With Columbia

MOBILE, Ala-- The 24th-ranked University split Friday's twin bill with Columbia College (Mo.) dropping the opener 2-3 and rebounding for a 5-0 win in the finale. In that final game, Leslie Pickette grabbed the win for Mobile by limiting the Lady Cougars to three hits in 6 shutout innings. She struck out seven and walked two. Offensively, Mobile plated five runs on only five hits, with the big blow being a four-run 4th inning that started the scoring. Ally Scott and Nicole Walker both finished 1-3 with 2 RBI, while Jessica Swanson was 1-2 with 1 RBI.

Peacock Pitches Rams To Win At Loyola

WESTWEGO, La-- The University of Mobile baseball team defeated Loyola University-New Orleans 3-1 in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference series opener Friday evening. Mobile (16-22, 9-14) and Loyola (9-18, 7-15) will finish the three-game series with a doubleheader Saturday at 1 pm. The Rams got a standout pitching performance from Chris Peacock and put pressure on the Wolfpack pitchers with 11 hits.

Men's Soccer National Championships Coming To Alabama

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The NAIA announced Wednesday the 2010 and 2011 NAIA Men’s Soccer National Championships will be hosted by the Alabama Gulf Coast Sports Commission, in conjunction with the University of Mobile. The events will be played at Orange Beach Sportsplex in Orange Beach, Ala. The 2010 Championship will occur Nov. 29-Dec. 4 and the 2011 event will be contested Nov. 28-Dec. 3.

No. 9 Belhaven Takes Two From No. 24 Mobile

JACKSON, Miss-- The 25th-ranked University of Mobile softball team dropped a Gulf Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader at 9th-ranked Belhaven University Tuesday, dropping the opener 1-0 and falling 4-2 in the finale. In the opener, the Lady Blazers got a 2-out run in the 1st on Tiffany Ansley's RBI-single and made that stand up as Sarah Burns limited the Mobile bats to two hits in 7 shutout innings.

Zelie Pfeiffer And Gustavo Godoi Honored

HATTIESBURG, Miss-- The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference released the GCAC Players of the Week for the week ending March 28, and the University of Mobile won both tennis awards. Gustavo Godoi was named GCAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week and Zelie Pfeiffer was named GCAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week.

No. 25 Mobile Sweeps Lindenwood Lady Lions

MOBILE, Ala-- The 25th-ranked University of Mobile softball team run-ruled Lindenwood University 10-2 in six innings in the opener Sunday, and then rallied for a 4-3 walk-off win in the finale. Mobile (25-10, 6-0) visits 9th-ranked Belhaven University Tuesday, March 30 for a 3 pm Gulf Coast Athletic Conference twin bill.
