Mobile Men Sweep Singles Play And Beat The Badgers

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile men's tennis team swept singles play to defeat SSAC West rival Spring Hill College 7-2 at the Mobile Tennis Center Wednesday. Mobile (2-0, 1-0) next plays March 11 at Loyola University at 4 pm. Spring Hill opened the match by taking a 2-1 lead after doubles action thanks to closely contested wins at the No. 2 and 3 spots.

Lady Rams Fall To Spring Hill

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile women's tennis team fell 3-6 to Spring Hill College Wednesday in a battle of teams receiving votes in the NAIA Top-25. Mobile (1-2, 0-1) hosts Judson College Thursday at 2 pm. The Badgers took a 2-1 lead after doubles play and then swept 3-6 in singles play, giving only seven games to Mobile in those sets.

Rams Take Pair From Hornets

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile baseball team swept a pair of non-conference games from Concordia College-Selma Tuesday, winning the opener 11-1 in a run-rule, 5-inning victory and taking the finale 6-5 in 7 innings. Jacob Knowles picked up the win in the opener with 4 innings of 2-hit, 1-run ball, while fanning 2 batters. Jeremy Williams finished 2-3 with 3 RBI and 2 runs, while Sam Mahoney finished 2-2 with 2 RBI and a home run. Ryne Phillips added a 3-run pinch-hit homer and Ben Negus scored 3 runs from the leadoff spot.

Men's Golf Finished 8th At FSCC Spring Invitational

FAIRHOPE, Ala-- The University of Mobile men's golf team finished 8th at the Faulkner State Community College Spring Invitational at Rock Creek's Par-72, 6,920-yard course. The Rams shaved 17 strokes off their opening round 323 to shoot a 306 in the final round and finished at 53-over 629. Wallace State CC won the tournament with a 13-over 589 (297, 292), while Central Alabama turned in the best round of the tournament with a 287 in the final round to finish 2nd by 6 strokes.

Honnery Named SSAC Player Of The Week

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile's Alice Honnery was named OnePath Systems SSAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week, as announced by the Southern States Athletic Conference Monday. Honnery, a 6-2 post player from New South Wales, Australia led Mobile to a 2-0 week, including an upset over 16th-ranked Xavier and a win over rival Spring Hill. She averaged 18 points, 14 rebounds, 6 blocks and 3.5 assists on the week. Against Xavier, she put up 15 points, 13 rebounds, 6 blocks and 6 assists.

Rams Roll Behind Kimbrough's 27 Points

MOBILE, Ala-- It was the Ji Kimbrough show Saturday evening, as the University of Mobile men's basketball team disposed of the Spring Hill College Badgers 65-53 in SSAC West rivalry action. The sophomore guard from Mobile poured in 27 points on 9-of-16 shooting, including 3-of-5 from 3-point range. He went over 20-plus points for the 8th time this season. Other shooters shot 11-of-32 and went 0-for-9 from 3-point range. Spencer Duke and Donte Walker added 9 points apiece for the Rams.

Mobile Softball Sweeps Pair In Montgomery

MONTGOMERY, Ala-- The University of Mobile softball team improved to 4-1 on the season with a sweep on the final day of the Faulkner University Tournament. Mobile opened by blanking Southern Wesleyan 5-0 and finished the day with a 3-2 victory over Shorter University. In the opener, Kamaron Strickland picked up the win with 6 innings of 3-hit, shutout relief. The sophomore fanned 8 in the game.

Lady Rams Bash The Badgers 72-62

MOBILE, Ala-- Entering play Saturday with only three regular season games left, the University of Mobile women's basketball team picked up a big SSAC West victory, beating Spring Hill 72-62. Mobile now sits at 15-9 overall and 5-5 in the division, which puts them in a tie for 3rd place. The top four teams from the East and the West advance to the SSAC Tournament. The Lady Rams will visit Faulkner Thursday, Feb. 24 at 5:30 pm.

Mobile Men's Tennis Upsets NCAA-I Squad

SHREVEPORT, La-- The University of Mobile men's tennis team upset NCAA-I Centenary College 5-4 to open the 2011 season Saturday. The teams were tied up at 4-4, when Lucas Martins finished off a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 victory at No. 3 singles to clinch the victory for Mobile. The Rams built a 2-1 lead after doubles action thanks to an 8-6 win from Jesus Urmeneta/Enzo Correa at No. 1 doubles and an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles from Guilherme Lorencon/Lucas Martins. Beau Bryars/Preston Smith fell 1-8 at No. 3 doubles.

Lady Rams Fall 4-5 At LSU-Shreveport

SHREVEPORT, La-- The University of Mobile women's tennis team dropped a hard-fought 4-5 decision at LSU-Shreveport Saturday. Mobile (1-1) will visit rival Spring Hill College Wednesday, Feb. 23 at 1 pm in a SSAC West Division battle. Mobile fell in a 1-2 hole after doubles play and could not recover.
