DESCRIPTION:Free tickets are now available for William Shakespeare’s “The Merchant of Venice” presented by students in the University of Mobile English Department.\n\nPerformances will be on the UMobile campus in Moorer Auditorium within Martin Hall Nov. 1-3 at 6:30 p.m. and Nov. 4 at 2 p.m. The public is invited and tickets will be used for reservation of the limited seating.\n\nFor tickets, see Cindy Godwin in the UMobile College of Arts and Sciences office, or for will-call tickets, contact UMobile senior Jeremy Crews at 256.282.1400.\n\nThe English Department and the cast desire to foster a love for theatre and a deeper understanding of human nature, grace, and justice within other students, the university, and the entire community, according to senior Sara Dye. The students select, rehearse, and produce the play apart from professor involvement.\n\nDye is both a producer and actress in the production.\n\n“Shakespeare never intended his plays to be read. He intended them to be performed and seen,” she said.\n\n“We love to encourage more of our student body to get involved in attending and appreciating the theatrical arts. We also have the privilege this year of partnering with the local Bayshore Christian School, where we will be doing acting workshops with their upper school children and they will be attending the play as a field trip,” Dye added.\n\nThe English Department’s second full-length, uncut Shakespeare production follows their popular production of “Much Ado About Nothing” last year.\n
