DESCRIPTION:The University of Mobile Art Department will host Branan Mercer, a specialist in ceramic art, in an exhibit titled “Functional Works in Porcelain.” The exhibit begins Jan. 14 and ends Feb. 28 in Martin Hall Gallery on the University of Mobile campus. Admission is free, and the public is invited to a reception Feb. 14 at 1:30 p.m.\n\nThe exhibit will feature the Fairhope, AL artist’s current body of work, which is a study of form and function. Mercer has a strong desire to eliminate distractions from his work, simply focusing on lines, surfaces, and volume. The subtle surfaces are absent of glaze, leaving only a porcelain body that has been sanded five times to a smooth, satin white surface, a trademark of Mercer’s current style. \n\nFor information, contact the UMobile Art Department at 251.442.2283.
