UMobile Prof Receives Dove Award as Musical Director on Best Children's Album

University of Mobile Director of Instrumental Studies Kenn Hughes has received a Dove Award for Best Children’s Album of the Year in 2012 for his work as musical director for Denver & the Mile High Orchestra on the album, “Groovy.” The Dove Awards, presented by the Gospel Music Association, recognize outstanding achievement in the Christian music industry.

This award honors Alabama Baptist State Convention ministers for faithful service that might otherwise go unrecognized. In essence, this is an award for unsung heroes in ministry.

Miss UM Pageant set for Feb. 2; Tickets at the Door

The University of Mobile will host the 2013 Miss University of Mobile Pageant at the Saraland High School Auditorium on Feb. 2 at 7 p.m. The pageant is an official Miss Alabama and Miss America preliminary. Tickets are $10 for the public and $5 for students with an ID card and will be available at the door the night of the pageant.

Steinway & Sons, makers of the world’s finest pianos, announced today that University of Mobile Artist-in-Residence Dr. Kadisha Onalbayeva has been named as a Steinway Artist. She joins a distinguished international roster of Steinway Artists including Billy Joel, Diana Krall, Harry Connick Jr., Lang Lang, Robert Holm of Mobile, and past music greats such as Irving Berlin, Cole Porter and Sergei Rachmaninoff.

University of Mobile Art Exhibit Features 'Functional Works in Porcelain'

The University of Mobile Art Department will host Branan Mercer, a specialist in ceramic art, in an exhibit titled “Functional Works in Porcelain.” The exhibit begins Jan. 14 and ends Feb. 28 in Martin Hall Gallery on the UMobile campus. Admission is free, and the public is invited to a reception Feb. 14 at 1:30 p.m.

University of Mobile 10th Annual ‘Christmas Spectacular’ Video Goes Viral, Special to be Televised

The University of Mobile 10th annual “Christmas Spectacular” reached a national audience when Fox News Channel aired clips from "Carol of the Bells" on Fox & Friends First, Greta Van Susteren, The Five, Fox News & Commentary, and posted online on Fox Nation. The full show will be televised internationally on satellite and locally during the 2012 Christmas season. An hour-long, high quality HD video has been produced featuring highlights of the popular production, which was held Nov. 30 through Dec. 2 at Dauphin Way Baptist Church in Mobile.

English Department Students to Present Shakespeare's 'Merchant of Venice'

Free tickets are now available for William Shakespeare’s “The Merchant of Venice” presented by students in the University of Mobile English Department. Performances are on campus Nov. 1-3 at 6:30 p.m. and Nov. 4 at 2 p.m. The public is invited and tickets will be used for reservation of the limited seating.

10th Anniversity 'Christmas Spectacular' Tickets Available; Recorded Event to be Televised

Free tickets are now available for the 10th annual Christmas Spectacular presented by the University of Mobile. Christmas Spectacular will be performed at Dauphin Way Baptist Church on Dauphin Street in Mobile on Friday, Nov. 30 through Sunday, Dec. 2 at 6:45 p.m. A ticketed dress rehearsal is also scheduled for Thursday, Nov 29 at 6:45 p.m.

University of Mobile President Rejects Federal Government Attempts to Define Religion, Ministry; Files Objections to Healthcare Mandate ‘Accommodation’

University of Mobile President Dr. Mark Foley said the federal government does not have the authority to define what constitutes true religion and authentic ministry, and its attempts to do so are setting a dangerous precedent. The Christian college president said the government’s definition of “religious employer” in the federal healthcare mandate is far too narrow. Foley has filed comments to that effect with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

UMobile President's Comments to U.S. Dept. of Health & Human Services on 'Accommodation' Language

The scope of the definition of “religious employers” exempted from the mandate is inappropriately
narrow and fails to accommodate forms of religious expression directed in the biblical record and
historically exercised by multitudes of church-related organizations and independent citizens of faith.
Thus, the definition, stated below, effectively gives preference to one form of religious expression to
the exclusion of all others. In so doing, it violates a fundamental principle of the establishment clause:
that the government not pick and choose between different religious groups.

University of Mobile Among 'America's 100 Best College Buys'

The University of Mobile has been named among “America’s 100 Best College Buys” by Institutional Research & Evaluation Inc., an independent research and consulting organization. The Christian university is one of only four schools in Alabama and the only private university in the state listed in the 2011-2012 report.

University of Mobile Plans Massive Day of Service: University of Mobile Project Serve

In celebration of the University of Mobile’s 50th anniversary year, the university will cancel classes Friday, Sept. 16 for “University of Mobile Project Serve,” a life lesson in community service that impacts the lives of people along the Gulf Coast.
More than a thousand students, faculty, staff, alumni and trustees will spread out in teams throughout Mobile and Baldwin counties to volunteer a day of service to the community.
