American Family Radio Program ‘Today’s Issues’ to Focus on Twelve23 Movement, New Book by University President

American Family Radio’s flagship program, ‘”Today’s Issues,” will focus on the Twelve23 Movement and a new book by University of Mobile President Dr. Mark Foley about the need for a spiritually transformed nation, and how individuals can start that transformation. The Jan. 31 program will feature live interviews with Foley and Dr. Joe Savage, director of the University of Mobile Center for Leadership. The Twelve23 Movement, a grassroots effort of individuals who share the common goal of wanting to see God transform America, is a project of the UMobile Center for Leadership.

‘Family Studio’ Displays Ceramics, Metalwork by UMobile’s Artistic Couple

University of Mobile president and first lady Mark and Marilyn Foley are displaying their artwork in an exhibit titled “Family Studio: Works by Mark and Marilyn Foley.” The exhibit is on display in Martin Hall Gallery through Feb. 28 on the university campus. A special artists’ talk will be held Feb.10 at 1:30 p.m. in Martin Hall. A reception will follow at 2:30 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.

UMobile Honor Band Features Outstanding High School Musicians

The University of Mobile Honor Band will present a free concert Feb. 26 at 1 p.m. in Ram Hall on the university’s campus. The concert is the concluding event of a three-day Honor Band camp featuring outstanding high school students from private schools and academies throughout the South who are nominated by their high school band directors.

UMobile English Professor to Present Lecture on Suffering

Dr. Katherine Abernathy, associate professor of English at the University of Mobile, will present a lecture titled “Suffering, Miracle and Mystery in the Work of Dostoevsky” on Jan. 20. The primary focus of the lecture will be Dostoevsky’s insight on the purpose of suffering and how the reasonable Christian can pursue a compassionate response.

Tickets Available for Upper Room Theatre Show 'Barefoot in the Park'

The University of Mobile Upper Room Theatre will present the romantic comedy “Barefoot in the Park” Feb. 11-13, and 18-20 in the Black Box Theatre of Martin Hall on the university campus. General admission tickets are $20 and $15 for students. The box office opens Jan. 28, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. For tickets, call 251.442.2383.

Life Trustee T. Massey Bedsole Remembered as ‘A Great Man’

T. Massey Bedsole, a Life Trustee of the University of Mobile, attorney and World War II veteran whose life exemplified a commitment to God, family and service to his nation and community, died at his home Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011. University of Mobile President Mark Foley said Bedsole was an “encourager” and “a great man of stature in our community.”
