UMobile Opera Theater Presents Comic Masterpiece ‘Die Fledermaus’ Performed in English
The University of Mobile Opera Theater will present Johann Strauss’ comic masterpiece Die Fledermaus (The Bat), on Feb. 16 and 17.

Set around a masked ball, Die Fledermaus is being transplanted from its origins in Vienna to modern-day Mobile during Mardi Gras. Originally written in German, this production will be performed in English featuring student singers and a mix of student and professional orchestra members led by Maestro Robert Seebacher, music director and conductor of the Johnson City Symphony Orchestra in Tennessee and the Mobile Symphony Youth Orchestra. Stage direction is by Dr. Patrick Jacobs, associate professor of music in the University of Mobile Center for Performing Arts.

This charming, fast-paced operetta is full of tuneful melodies that will leave the audience humming and smiling, Jacobs said.

The operetta will be performed each night at 7:30 p.m. at the Chickasaw Civic Theatre, 801 Iroquois Street, Chickasaw, Ala. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students. Tickets are available at the door, or call 251.442.2420 or 251.442.2554 for group rates and preferred seating.
