The University of Mobile will hold the Miss UM 2012 Pageant Saturday, Feb. 4, at 7 p.m. at Saraland High School Auditorium. Tickets will be $5 at the door for UMobile students with a student ID and $10 for the general public.
The theme for the pageant is “The Best in the World.” Cierra Giles
, Miss UM 2011, will crown her successor at the conclusion of the pageant.
Miss UM serves as an official ambassador for the University of Mobile at a variety of events. Each Miss UM promotes a service platform of her choice in the community and competes for scholarships in June at the Miss Alabama Pageant, a preliminary to the Miss America Pageant.
The contestants of Miss UM will face five different phases of competition: interview, swimsuit, talent, evening wear, and an on-stage question.
, junior global business major from Irvington, Ala. She will perform a vocal piece titled “Come to My Garden” and her platform is “Influencing Our Youth Today.”
r, sophomore musical theatre major from Opelika, Ala. She will perform a vocal and dance piece titled “Le Jazz Hot!” and her platform is “The Power of a Mentor.”

, sophomore music education major from Pensacola, Fla. She will perform a flute and vocal piece titled “America the Beautiful” and her platform is “A Healthy America: Dealing with Eating Disorders.”
, junior intercultural studies and English major from Priceville, Ala. She will perform a vocal piece titled “Circle of Life” and her platform is “Celebrating Well-Rounded Womanhood.”
freshman graphic design major from Mobile, Ala. She will perform a lyrical dance titled “Someone Like You” and her platform is “Putting an End to the Excessive Bullying of Kids.”
junior early childhood education major from Mobile, Ala. She will perform a sign language piece titled “Worth It All” and her platform for the competition is “P.R.A.Y. – Promoting Respect & Abstinence in Youth.”
, junior music major from Daphne, Ala. She will perform a piano piece titled “Toccata” and her platform is “Compassion International.”
sophomore worship leadership major from Satsuma, Ala. She will perform a guitar and vocal piece titled “To Make You Feel My Love” and her platform is “Inner City Youth Leadership Program.”
, sophomore English education major from Guntersville, Ala. She will perform a vocal piece titled “Miss Otis Regrets” and her platform for the competition is “All Must Be Fair in Trade and More.”
, freshman sociology major from Headland, Ala. She will perform a piano piece titled “Rumba” and her platform for the competition is “Mentoring Troubled Youth.”
, freshman music major from St. Stephens, Ala. She will perform a twirling piece titled “Gonna Fly Now” and her platform is Apraxia-KIDS “Every Child Deserves a Voice.”
, freshman communication and vocal performance major from Mobile, Ala. She will perform a vocal piece titled “Reflections” and her platform for the competition is “Empowering YOUth.”
, freshman missions theology and elementary education major from Tuscaloosa, Ala. She will perform a flag routine titled “You Can’t Stop the Beat” and her platform is “Autism Awareness.”
The reigning Miss UM receives full tuition for one year, a wardrobe allowance of $1,000, and prizes valued at over $2,500.
Miss UM 2012 will compete for the title of Miss Alabama in June at Samford University’s Wright Center in Birmingham, Alabama. Miss Alabama will compete for the title of Miss America in Las Vegas in January of 2013.
