The University of Mobile Jazz Band will present “Strike Up the Band!” featuring the music of Sammy Nestico on April 26 at 7:30 p.m. in Ram Hall on the university campus.

The UMobile Jazz Band will present many of Sammy Nestico’s songs including “Alright, Okay, You Win,” “Basie Straight Ahead,” “String of Pearls,” “Sweet Georgia Brown,” and “On the Sunny Side of the Street.”
Kenn Hughes, director of instrumental studies, jazz band, RamCorps and assistant professor of music, is directing. UMobile Jazz Band is one of more than 20 ensembles in the
Center for Performing Arts.
Sammy Nestico, song composer, writer and arranger, has numerous credentials. He has arranged and/or conducted albums for recording artists Phil Collins, Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Natalie Cole, Pat Boone and others. He has been honored by the American Society of Music Arrangers and Composers (ASMAC) and Big Band Academy of America (BBAA). He is also the author of the textbook “The Complete Arranger.” His arrangements have been played by leading symphonies, and recorded by the Boston Pops and Andre Kostelanetz Orchestras.
