The University of Mobile is adding a new residence hall with apartment-style living for upperclassmen.
Construction is underway on the UMobile apartments, which will add 24 apartments totaling 94 beds to the Christian college campus. The three-story building is located across from Karlene Farmer Faulkner Hall and the exterior will be similar in style to the school’s newest residence halls, Faulkner and Samford.
The interior will feature 24 apartments, plus a central lobby and laundry rooms at each end of each hall. Apartments will house four students with their own private bedroom, two shared bathrooms, and a common living area and kitchenette.
The 39,918-square-foot building is expected to cost about $6.2 million including furnishings. Like Samford and Faulkner, the residence hall will have central lobby areas and could house men on one side and women on the other, if needed in order to accommodate UMobile’s growing on-campus enrollment.
The left side of the building is on schedule to be completed by Aug. 8 in time for the start of Fall semester 2012, while the right side should be finished by November or sooner.
UMobile’s campus housing
has been filled to capacity for several years, and school officials anticipate more residence halls will soon be needed to accommodate the demand for on-campus housing.
