The University of Mobile Center for Leadership’s newest book, “We Forgot! The 7 Unlearned Lessons of 9/11” will be featured in an upcoming presentation and book signing Sept. 11 at Page & Palette in Fairhope, AL, from 6 to 8 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.
Dr. Joe Savage, director of the Center for Leadership, and Amy Wright, assistant director, co-authored the book last fall. The event will be held in commemoration of the 11th anniversary of 9/11.
“We Forgot!” contains seven lessons drawn from events surrounding the 1789 inauguration of George Washington and the national response following Sept.11, 2001.
Savage says the current national crisis is due in part to the American people's failure to remember the foundational truths conveyed by our nation's founders.
"Today, our country is in crisis once again,” Savage writes. “As we struggle to find solutions for our economic, political, and social turmoil, perhaps the answers we need are found within another memorable day in the heart of New York City -- April 30, 1789. Follow the path of George Washington on inauguration day and rediscover the truths that define the character of the American people.”
Wright said, “Just as 9/11 was a startling reminder that freedom must be defended, the lessons in ‘We Forgot!’ are drawn from American history to remind us that every citizen has a personal responsibility to preserve our liberty. I can’t think of a better way to commemorate the anniversary of 9/11 than to remember, celebrate and reapply the principles on which our nation was founded.”
