University of Mobile’s Chora Godwin Learning Center is a peer tutoring service that is free and available to all UMobile students who need help in a particular subject.
Tutors are available for English, math, science, psychology, Spanish, French, music theory, and other subjects as needed.
The Learning Center is located on the second floor of J. L. Bedsole Library above Java City, the coffee shop on campus.
The Learning Center is an academic support system for all students at UMobile, according to Kim Fobes, instructor in English and director of the Learning Center.
Richard Lyons, a senior majoring in biology from Mobile, Ala., comes to the Learning Center on a regular basis.
“If I get stuck, I have someone to help me immediately. It’s better with someone by your side because you don’t get behind in class,” Lyons said.
Callie George, a senior majoring in biology from Panama City, Fla., is a Learning Center tutor.
“It’s free and really helpful. If you have any questions, we can answer it,” said George.
To make an appointment, UMobile students may visit the Learning Center or call 251.442.2377. The Learning Center is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to at least 5 p.m. Appointment times vary according to the tutors’ class schedules.
