The University of Mobile Center for Performing Arts will showcase the talents of its performing arts students at the Spring Spectacular. The concert is the final performance for the 2013-2014 season and will feature students from the university’s 24 performing ensembles.
The Spring Spectacular will be held Sunday, April 27, at 7 p.m. at the Saraland Performing Arts Center at Saraland High School. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased through itickets.com or at the door.
Dr. Al Miller, dean of the UMobile Center for Performing Arts/School of Music and School of Worship Leadership, said the Spring Spectacular started several years ago for students who traveled and performed in the school’s many ensembles to have an opportunity to see other ensembles perform.
“The CPA is home to 24 performing ensembles and, as one can imagine, students don’t have an opportunity to experience each other’s performances since the ensembles are often on the road in churches, schools and at civic events,” Miller said. “Originally, we created this final concert of the season for the students.
“At the request of friends and family, an audience was eventually allowed to come and join in on all the fun and inspiration,” Miller said.
Today, the event attracts an audience who experiences the full range of performance styles taught at the university, from classical to contemporary, from dance to theatre.
