University of Mobile students will move into residence halls Friday morning, Aug. 15 and classes begin Monday, Aug. 18 at the Christian university.
Residence halls are expected to be near their full capacity of 734, with total enrollment over 1,600. Ram Rush, the annual back-to-school orientation extravaganza of get-to-know events, concerts, worship experiences and athletic competitions, begins Aug. 15 and continues through Aug. 22.
Move-in begins at 9 a.m. on Aug. 15, and current UMobile students will join staff and faculty to help campus residents move into residence halls. Ram Rush events begin later that day at 5 p.m. with a “Ramily Rodeo” on the Weaver Hall front lawn, followed by Hollywood Game Night in Ram Hall.
Ram Rush events are designed to help new students make friends and quickly become comfortable with campus life. In addition to participating in Ram Rush events, returning students are involved in organizing and leading activities that include an outdoor movie, scavenger hunt campus tour, ’80s prom skate party, glow-in-the-dark dodgeball tourney, Ramapalooza Slip-N-Slide Extravaganza, Dinner on the Run progressive dinner to visit 12 local churches, and the UM Expo to introduce campus organizations to new students.
Ram Rush also includes the first Freshman Seminar class, an academic orientation led by faculty and staff that is a semester-long course teaching study skills and time management, among other topics.
