Dr. Roger Breland, vice president of project development and executive director of the Center for Performing Arts at the University of Mobile, has been inducted into the 2010 Sinfonia, a national honor of Phi Mu Alpha music fraternity.

The Signature Sinfonian award recognizes alumni members who have achieved a high standard of accomplishment in their field. Phi Mu Alpha is the oldest and largest music fraternity for men

Breland is one of four members in the 2010 class of inductees. Also inducted were: Vic Firth, a percussionist and founder of Vic Firth Inc., a percussion stick and mallet manufacturing company; Wayne Messmer, best known for his spirited rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” and as the field announcer at Wrigley Field; and Dr. James M. Simmons, a distinguished music educator and administrator, serving as the 10th president of Lamar University.

Breland said, “I have many wonderful memories of my association with Phi Mu Alpha during my time at Troy University. I feel honored to receive the Signature Sinfonian award.”

Daniel Krueger, director of alumni engagement, Phi Mu Alpha, said, “While Phi Mu Alpha is a music fraternity, we have members whose professional accomplishments continue within and beyond the field of music. The Signature Sinfonian award recognizes these members for a lifetime of excellence. It is truly an honor to have Dr. Breland represent the ideals of our fraternity through his personal and professional accomplishments.”

Breland spent 31 years as the founder and director of TRUTH, an internationally known contemporary Christian ensemble. His impact on the Christian music industry earned him election into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame. At the UMobile Center for Performing Arts, he prepares the next generation of Christian leaders in all genres of music.
