“Barefoot in the Park” is a romantic comedy by Neil Simon about a straight-laced attorney and his free-spirited bride who live in a tiny sixth floor walk-up apartment with no heat, a hole in the skylight, and oddball neighbors. The Broadway production was nominated for three Tony Awards and was Simon’s longest-running hit and the 10th longest running non-musical play in Broadway history. It spawned the 1967 film version starring Robert Redford and Jane Fonda.

“Barefoot in the Park” is the second production of the academic year by the Upper Room Theatre, which will also present “The Music Man” April 15-17.

Bruce Earnest, chair of the musical theatre department, serves as artistic director of the show. UMobile alumna Alison Wilks is director of the production and the set is designed by Constance Smith.

The Upper Room Theatre is part of the musical theatre program in the University of Mobile Center for Performing Arts. The program provides professional training in a supportive environment that focuses on students’ development as artists of excellence.
