Voices of Mobile Serves Community kdean posted on January 27, 2011 13:54 The University of Mobile’s Voices of Mobile musical ensemble group spent an afternoon in January stepping out of the recording studio and into the community. Dr. Roger Breland, executive director of the university’s Center for Performing Arts and vice president of project development, took the group to entertain and dine with staff and residents of two charitable relief organizations. After spending time at the two service events, the ensemble concluded the afternoon with bowling and frozen yogurt. Sophomore Annaclaire Wilbanks, a member of Voices of Mobile, said, “Going to the homeless shelter was such an incredible experience. It was so much fun getting to meet and talk with these people because they each have such incredible stories.” Voices of Mobile is a highly versatile, auditioned vocal ensemble of 16 singers. While Voices focuses on a capella music, it also presents music of traditional and contemporary genres. Voices maintains a highly visible and consistent performing schedule, having performed in the White House and toured extensively throughout the southeastern United States and abroad.
