Faculty Piano Recital Has International Flavor

A piano recital featuring the works of American, French, Kazakh and Russian composers will be held Friday, March 4, at 7 p.m. in Moorer Auditorium at the University of Mobile.

Pianists Carol Evers and Dr. Kadisha Onalbayeva, instructors of piano and accompanists at the University of Mobile, will perform. Admission is free and open to the public.

Both solo and duet works will be featured, including works by Debussy, Chopin, Hinton, and Gershwin. Onalbayeva will perform one of her own compositions as well as “Rhapsody in Blue,” with Evers playing the orchestral accompaniment on the second piano.

Evers is a member of the Mobile Piano Ensemble and has been featured five times as concerto soloist and several times as a duo artist. She is widely known as an accompanist, having played for numerous vocal and instrumental recitals, musicals at the Mobile Theater Guild, Joe Jefferson Players, and Chickasaw Civic Theater, and opera productions at the University of Mobile. She has also performed in the Mobile Symphony Orchestra and the Gulf Coast Symphony in Mississippi.

Onalbayeva, a native of Kazakhstan, is a faculty member of Pensacola State College and the University of Mobile where she teaches piano and composition. She has participated in international new music festivals as composer, performer and organizer throughout Central Asia, Austria, England, Kazakhstan, Russian, Uzbekistan, and Tatarstan. Onalbayeva has also participated in new music activities and performances throughout the United States.
