Full of small town charm, “The Music Man” features a cast of memorable characters and songs including "Til There Was You." In this musical comedy, a con man comes to Iowa in order to swindle a town with promises of a boys' band, but he never anticipated the Iowa stubbornness of one astute librarian.
“The Music Man” is the final production of the 2010 - 2011 academic year by the Upper Room Theatre.
Bruce Earnest, chair of the musical theatre department and associate professor of musical theatre, is directing of the production. Charles Houghton, chair of theatre at the University of West Florida, is the set designer.
Scott Wright, general director of Mobile Opera, is musical director for the URT production and Monica Henry is choreographer.
The Upper Room Theatre is part of the University of Mobile Musical Theatre Program in the university’s Center for Performing Arts. It provides current, professional training in a supportive environment that focuses on students’ development as artists of excellence.
