UMobile Faculty Members Receive Promotions

Five University of Mobile faculty members received promotions, which were announced by University of Mobile President Dr. Mark Foley during the annual faculty and staff luncheon in May.

Dr. Al Miller was promoted to professor of music in the Center for Performing Arts. Miller is also dean of the CPA and interim dean of the School of Worship Ministries. He has served the university for eight years. He holds a bachelor of science from University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, a master of music education from Samford University, and a Ph.D. from Florida State University.

Dr. Kathy Sheppard was promoted to professor of nursing in the School of Nursing. Sheppard is also chair of the Department of Associate Degree in Nursing. She has served the university for 24 years. She holds a bachelor of science in nursing from University of Mobile, a master of science in nursing from University of South Alabama, and Ph.D. from University of Alabama in Birmingham.

Dr. Doug Wilson was promoted to professor of Christian studies in the School of Christian Studies. Wilson has served the university for eight years. He holds a bachelor of science from Toccoa Falls College, and master of divinity and Ph.D. from Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary.

Sarah Witherspoon was promoted to associate professor of nursing in the School of Nursing. Witherspoon has served the university for 10 years. She holds an associate degree in nursing from Bishop State Community College, and bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing from University of Mobile.

Debra Chancey was promoted to assistant professor of education in the School of Education. Chancey has served the university for five years. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Mobile, with additional graduate studies from the University of South Alabama.
