The University of Mobile Center for Performing Arts will present Joanie Brittingham, soprano, in recital Sept. 25 at 4 p.m. in Moorer Auditorium on the university campus.
Brittingham, instructor of music in the UMobile Center for Performing Arts, will perform works by Bolcom, Lehmann, Caccini, L’India, Brahms, Faure and Mozart. She will be accompanied by Sharon Hudson, adjunct instructor of piano at UMobile.

Brittingham is known for her high notes and stage presence. She has performed the role of Polly Browne in “The Boy Friend” with Light Opera Oklahoma, where she was praised for her “powerful voice” according to The Tulsa World. She also performed the role of Ella in “Patience” and sang in the chorus of “Kiss Me, Kate.”
Other credits include Peep-Bo in “The Mikado” and chorus in “Elixir of Love” and “Carmen” with Wichita Grand Opera. She portrayed the role of Musetta in “La Boheme” with Opera Ischia in Italy, and performed the roles of Anna Reich in “Die Lustigen Weiber von Windsor,” Erisbe in “L’Ormindo,” and the starring role in the world premiere of “The Face in the Wall” as a student.
Musical theatre credits include Sister Sophia in “The Sound of Music” and the title role of Cinderella with West Virginia Public Theatre, as well as Johanna in “Sweeney Todd” with CalRep Pennyslvania.
Brittingham has two master’s degrees from Baylor University in voice performance and music history and literature, and obtained her undergraduate degree from West Virginia University in voice performance and theatre. She has studied at the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria and at the Oberlin in Italy program.
Sharon Hudson taught at Brescia University in Owensboro, Ky., for two years and was director of music at St. Anthony Church in Utica, Ky., for four years. She served as a collaborative pianist and judge for music festivals in Owensboro, Ky., and Evansville, Ind.
Hudson holds a DMA in piano performance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and is pianist at Saraland United Methodist Church.
