Tickets Going Quickly for Popular 'Christmas Spectacular'

Tickets are going quickly for  the University of Mobile “Christmas Spectacular," with two of four performances already sold out. University of Mobile President Rejects Federal Government Attempts to Define Religion, Ministry; Files Objections to Healthcare Mandate ‘Accommodation’

University of Mobile President Dr. Mark Foley said the federal government does not have the authority to define what constitutes true religion and authentic ministry, and its attempts to do so are setting a dangerous precedent. The Christian college president said the government’s definition of “religious employer” in the federal healthcare mandate is far too narrow. Foley has filed comments to that effect with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

UMobile President's Comments to U.S. Dept. of Health & Human Services on 'Accommodation' Language

The scope of the definition of “religious employers” exempted from the mandate is inappropriately
narrow and fails to accommodate forms of religious expression directed in the biblical record and
historically exercised by multitudes of church-related organizations and independent citizens of faith.
Thus, the definition, stated below, effectively gives preference to one form of religious expression to
the exclusion of all others. In so doing, it violates a fundamental principle of the establishment clause:
that the government not pick and choose between different religious groups.

UMobile Students Awarded Prestigious Internships in U.S. Senate, Smithsonian Institute

University of Mobile students Jessica Catlin and Alexis Barnard will spend part of their summer in the nation’s capital gaining firsthand knowledge of history and political science. Having survived a highly competitive application process, the pair has been selected to serve as government interns. Catlin will work in the U.S. Senate for Sen. Jeff Sessions while Barnard will work at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum.

Life Lessons: UMobile Education Students Teach in Uganda

The sound of singing echoed from a small village school in rural Uganda. The voices grew louder as people came running eagerly from their homes to join in the song they had learned from four University of Mobile students the day before. The song resounded down the dirt-trodden paths: “Yes, Jesus loves me, yes, Jesus loves me. Yes, Jesus loves me, the Bible tells me so!” The UMobile students were visiting the school as part of a 10-day project in northern Uganda.

University of Mobile Professor Emeritus Dr. Kenneth Bergdolt passed away early in the morning of Dec. 23. Enrollment Continues to Rise at University of Mobile

The University of Mobile announced an increase in enrollment for fall semester 2011, with 1,798 students. Shofar Award for Faithful Service Presented to Dr. Pete Dunn, Pastor of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Uriah, Ala.

The University of Mobile presented the Shofar Award for faithful service by an Alabama Baptist minister to Dr. William Terry “Pete” Dunn during the university’s 45th graduation ceremony on May 14. Dunn, who was a missionary to Arab-speaking lands for more than 30 years, has served as pastor of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Uriah, Ala., since 2003.

Student Discovers His Niche: Jimmy Fisher to Graduate Saturday with Athletic Training Degree

Jimmy Fisher first thought he wanted to be a photojournalist. Then he wanted to study business management. He also considered the medical field, but he didn't want to go to medical school. And then he found his niche - athletic training.
"I realized I love sports, and I love helping people," said the 22-year-old Fisher, who will earn a bachelor's degree in athletic training education May 14.

CPA To Present 'Saviour' Modern Oratorio

The University of Mobile Center for Performing Arts will present the modern oratorio “Saviour: The Story of God’s Passion for His People” at 7 p.m. on April 19 at Dauphin Way Baptist Church in Mobile. “Saviour” is an hour-long concert that paints a musical portrait of God pursuing His people, from creation through resurrection.

UMobile Professor Trains Athletes Despite Danger

When University of Mobile professor Dr. William Carroll accepted the position of athletic trainer for India’s boxing team in the 2010 Common Wealth Games, he had no idea that by the time he arrived the country would be in turmoil. Instead of a simple athletic training job for the Common Wealth of Nation’s version of the Olympics, Carroll now faced road blocks, food shortages and the threat of bombs which were actually visible over the mountains.

The University of Mobile campus is ready to welcome prospective students and their parents to campus for UMobile Visit Day on Friday, Feb. 4. UMobile faculty and staff have a great day planned! If winter weather in areas further north of the campus make travel difficult for those traveling long distances, visitors may reschedule their campus visit. Another UMobile Visit Day is scheduled for March 4, and private tours are given each week Mondays through Fridays.

American Family Radio’s flagship program, ‘”Today’s Issues,” will focus on the Twelve23 Movement and a new book by University of Mobile President Dr. Mark Foley about the need for a spiritually transformed nation, and how individuals can start that transformation. ‘Family Studio’ Displays Ceramics, Metalwork by UMobile’s Artistic Couple

University of Mobile president and first lady Mark and Marilyn Foley are displaying their artwork in an exhibit titled “Family Studio: Works by Mark and Marilyn Foley.” The exhibit is on display in Martin Hall Gallery through Feb. 28 on the university campus. The University of Mobile Honor Band will present a free concert Feb. 26 at 1 p.m. in Ram Hall on the university’s campus. Life Trustee T. Massey Bedsole Remembered as ‘A Great Man’

T. Massey Bedsole, a Life Trustee of the University of Mobile, attorney and World War II veteran whose life exemplified a commitment to God, family and service to his nation and community, died at his home Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011. University of Mobile President Mark Foley said Bedsole was an “encourager” and “a great man of stature in our community.”
