Ask any employer what they look for in a college grad and, chances are, most of them will mention communication.  Now, there are communication skills, and there is communication knowledge.  Skills help the person manage the mechanics of speaking and writing.  But knowledge enables the person to apply communication strategically as a management tool – for self or an organization.

The University of Mobile PRSS (Public Relations Student Society) is affiliated with the Public Relations Council of Alabama (a professional business communication society) through its Mobile Chapter.  It provides student members with opportunities to interact with professional business communicators to improve their knowledge of communication.

Communication and other business majors use PRSS to meet business professionals and discuss communication challenges.  It also provides hands-on communication projects and other professional development activities.  The UM chapter is managed by student members.  Both the PRCA state organization and its Mobile Chapter provide direct support through designated officers.  The faculty advisor is Dr. Ron Woods

Students interested in joining PRSS should contact Dr. Woods.  Nominal dues of $20.00 per year include registration with PRCA and receipt of PRCA publications. Membership enables participation in PRCA professional activities such as seminars, workshops, and conferences.
