A meeting of the Dead Theologian’s
Society at the University of Mobile is anything but “dead.” You’re
likely to find students and School of Christian Studies professors debating
the timing of the Rapture, passionately defending their views on the
sinful nature of man, or grappling with a controversial issue in a
present-day church.
And eating a bowl of chili.
The Dead Theologian’s Society at the University of Mobile
began as a way for students and School of Christian Studies professors to meet informally
and discuss ideas of theologians such as C.S. Lewis, John Calvin, St. Augustine
and Martin Luther, among others. But these dead theologians weren’t the
only ones who struggled with ideas, who questioned, probed and prayed for understanding.
Each Friday at noon the School of Christian Studies offers a free meal along
with a chance to explore ideas that have eternal significance. Anything is up
for discussion, and you name the topic: demon possession, how to handle a bully,
the foreknowledge of God, spiritual gifts, the Christian’s attitude and
responsibility toward government, arguments for the existence of God, ethical
and moral issues and more.
It’s a free lunch and a free-flowing discussion every Friday
at noon.
