Office of Institutional Effectiveness

Institutional effectiveness is the systematic, ongoing process of collecting and analyzing data to determine whether the University is accomplishing its mission in an effective manner.  Results are utilized for institutional decision making and continuous improvement. The Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs at the University of Mobile coordinates the planning and assessment processes for both academic and administrative units of the University.  These are complementary processes which enable individual planning units to assess their programs and use the assessment results for improvement. Academic and administrative units define their desired outcomes for supporting the University's strategic plan and assess whether they are meeting those outcomes at the end of each annual planning cycle.  In addition, academic units also define desired student learning outcomes for each major area of study and examine whether those desired outcomes are being achieved at the end of each planning cycle.  Two important university-wide assessment tools administered through the IE office include the Student Opinion Survey (SOS) and the Measure of Academic Proficiency and Progress (MAPP).  Various administrative and academic offices also employ additional measurement tools.

The Institutional Effectiveness function also includes serving as in-house facilitator for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) reviews and reports, preparing the Common Data Set, and
preparing and submitting external surveys such as U. S. News & World Reports annual surveys, the ACT Institutional Data Questionnaire, the Chronicle Survey of Graduate Enrollment, Peterson's annual surveys,
and the Princeton Review surveys.  In addition, a variety of statistical reports are prepared by this office, including the University of Mobile Fact Book.
