One of my favorite classes at UM is "Contemporary Religious Faith." In this class, students have the opportunity to defend his/her faith and see the viewpoints of others. It's a safe environment to experience views of other denominations, to see the attraction of other beliefs/religions and their emptiness, which leads to the need to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This summer I traveled to Elgin, Scotland through the School of Religion's University Missions program. I had the opportunity to work with many of the teenagers there encouraging them to not only be sure that they have come to faith in Christ, but also helping them to live their faith and share it with others. The most valuable thing I've learned at UM is to be effective in communicating the love of Jesus Christ. The professors in the School of Religion are great. They are grounded in conservative theology, love their students, and always make time to help us in any way they can. One of my favorite classes is "Christian Theology." It has given me a much greater awe of the majesty of God. UM has fueled my desire for diligence in the study of God's word. I decided to attend UM because I knew God had called me to full-time ministry. The call to ministry is a call to be equipped. After much prayer and investigation, I felt that UM would be a good place to begin the process of equipping me for ministry. After graduation, I plan to attend seminary to further this process. Name: Greg Sells One of the great things about the University of Mobile is that students are able to have one-on-one time with their professors, which is not possible at the larger universities. The professors here encourage students to come talk with them. The professors in the School of Religion have a vast amount of knowledge in their specific subject area. They each have such different personalities, but they all share a passionate view of the Lord. But, most of all, they love and put Jesus first. One of my favorite classes at UM was my "Introduction to the Old Testament" class. I learned so much about the many different aspects of God and His relationship with His people. In my short time at UM, I've learned that you are able to do more than
you ever thought you could and to never accept less than your best.
The family atmosphere at UM was evident to me on my first campus visit. It really is a tight-knit group that cares about each other. Ram Rush members aren't kidding when they say UM is "A Place to Call Home, A People to Call Family." I really enjoy my classes, and the professors are what makes the UM college experience so great. The y are knowledgeable and approachable. All of them have incredible insight into the subject at hand, and they truly care about you and have a desire for you to understand. One of my favorite classes was "Christian Theology." I know that sounds like a "religion major" thing to say, but Dr. Younce did such a great job at explaining and teaching the subjects which were hard for me to comprehend before I took the class. Most importantly, at UM I've learned that in the body of Christ we are one. No one is more important than another, no matter if you are preparing to be a nurse, teacher, coach, graphic artist, or a preacher, the body of Christ is bigger than you! No one else's calling is any higher than another's, just different. I have learned to embrace diversity without compromising the word of God.
