| Q: What is required to gain admission to the Graduate
Programs at the University of Mobile? |
| A: |
Since applicants must always be admitted to a specific program
within the Graduate Programs, all applications for admission to the
Graduate Programs are reviewed and approved by the Dean of the School
in which the student intends to study and by the Graduate Dean.
You can download application documents
from our web site.
Paper applications can be requested at this Website. They
are to be sent to:

The General sections (verbal, quantitative and analytic sections)
of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) are required of all applicants
to the Graduate Programs; except in the School of Business, which
requires the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT). The
School of Nursing also accepts the Miller Analogies Test (MAT). Prospective
students should plan to take the appropriate examination. A
copy of their scores must be sent to the Office of Graduate Programs.
The decision to admit an applicant to pursue studies at the University
of Mobile results from evaluations of qualitative and quantitative
information. All applicants must provide a completed application
form and records of previous academic achievements (official transcripts). Applicants
may be required to provide letters of recommendation. The Deans
of each Graduate Program consider all of the application materials
which are reviewed and contribute to the final decision.
It should be clearly understood that the admission requirements
listed below represent the minimal standards set by the Graduate
Council and that additional requirements and higher standards may
well be stipulated by the various school deans. Applicants
should check for such requirements with the school themselves or
the appropriate section of the Graduate Bulletin.
Minimum standards for admission to the Masters programs:
- The applicant must hold a baccalaureate degree from an institution approved
by a regional accrediting agency.
- The applicant must be eligible
to re-register in good standing at the last college or university
attended.
- The applicant must present evidence, by official transcript,
of a grade point average of at least 2.75 (based on a 4.0 scale)
- Applicants
must present satisfactory standardized test scores (GRE, GMAT,
or MAT). Consult specific school requirements for
this information.
- The appropriate dean and the graduate dean must
be convinced that the applicant shows promise of satisfying
graduate degree requirements.

| Q: I
was given conditional admission to a graduate program. What does
that mean? |
| A: |
A student who fails to qualify for unconditional admission due
to a less than satisfactory grade point average or test scores may
be admitted on a conditional basis, provided, however, the student
possesses a grade point average of at least 2.50. Students
who still need prerequisites are also considered conditional. Conditional
admission can be given only upon the recommendation of the school
dean and the graduate dean. |
| Q: How do I move
from conditional to unconditional admission? |
| A: |
A conditional student at the masters level must maintain
a grade point average of at least 3.00 on the first nine (9) semester
hours of course work numbered 500 or above or on all courses taken
while completing this nine (9) hour requirement. |
| Q: Can
I take graduate classes without being admitted to a particular program? |
| A: |
Yes, the student must fill out an application form and specify
interest in being a special non-degree student. Students
with Bachelors degrees who desire to take graduate courses
but who are not working toward graduate degrees may enroll as Non-Degree
graduate students. Enrollment as a Non-Degree student, however,
does not guarantee admission to a graduate class. Each applicant
must provide the Office of Graduate Programs with the following:
- A completed application for admission;
- A non-refundable application
fee;
- An official transcript from the last institution attended
showing grades and degree(s) earned; and
- A letter from applicant
stating intent to be a Non-Degree student.
