ORANGE BEACH, Ala. -- Charli Duff pitched a complete game, three hitter as Lee University slipped past Spring Hill College, 1-0, in round one pool play action Friday evening at the Gulf Coast Softball Invitational in Orange Beach, Alabama.
Lee would get the only run they needed in the top of the second inning when Jill Webb singled home Caryn Hill with the game-winning run. Lee had just three hits in the game, all coming in the second inning.
Aracely Rodriguez started for Spring Hill and was tagged with the loss after going four innings and allowing just the one run on three hits.
Spring Hill threatened to score in the bottom of the seventh when Stephanie Piggott singled to right field with two outs to keep the inning alive. She would advance to second base and move into scoring position on a wild pitch, however, she would not come any closer as Duff struck out the final Badger hitter to end the threat.
Lee University moves to 2-0 in the tournament and will play their final pool play game tomorrow against University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma at 1 p.m.
Spring Hill will play again tonight against the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma at 7 p.m. and again tomorrow morning against Reinhardt College at 11 a.m.
