ORANGE BEACH, Ala. --William Woods University scored four runs in the top of the first inning and added three more in the top of the third inning as they won their first game of the Gulf Coast Softball Invitational by defeating St. Xavier University 7-4 Friday afternoon.
Ashley Windmiller went 2-for-3 from plate including a home run and a double and two RBI’s while Mandy Henke hit a two-run homer of her own to lead the way.
Nicole Davenport went the distance for William Woods giving up just two hits, four runs (two earned) and striking out two.
Kacie Karasiak took the loss for St. Xavier.
William Woods will play again tonight at 7 p.m. against No. 4-ranked University of Mobile.
St. Xavier went 0-2 in their first two games of the tournament and will continue pool play tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. against Mobile.
