ORANGE BEACH, Ala. -- The 4th-ranked Rams softball team (13-0) defeated St. Gregory’s University 10-0 in a mercy-ruled five innings in first day action of the Gulf Coast Invitational held at the Orange Beach Sportsplex. Mobile’s Linden Jones pitched her second no-hitter of the week and was one walk away from pitching a perfect game in a convincing win against the 24 th-ranked team in the country.
UM jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning and never looked back. Mayret Perez, 1-for-2 with two runs scored and one RBI, drove in Evelyne Pare to get things going in the first. Rachel West went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs, with Meredith Tanner 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run, and Karine Gagne 1-for-2 with two RBIs as Mobile added a run in the bottom of the fourth and five in the bottom of the fifth.
Mobile will complete their first day of the invitational with a 7 p.m. game against 16 th-ranked William Woods University while St. Gregory’s ended their day with a split after having defeated St. Xavier University earlier in the day.
