ORANGE BEACH, Ala. - The 11th-ranked Huskies of Houston Baptist University defeated Martin Luther College 8-0 in a mercy-ruled five innings in day two of the Gulf Coast Invitational held at the Orange Beach Sportsplex in Orange Beach, Alabama.

Rachel Werner struck out eight and gave up only two hits in five innings pitched. She got offensive support from Kristy Carlson (2-for-3), Cheri Wood (2-for-3) and Katelyn Griffin (2-for-3) who has been on an absolute tear. Belting her third home run of the tournament, Griffin added two more RBIs to her running tab.

Ahnsharee Pieper was in the circle for the Knights of Martin Luther. Pieper surrendered ten hits and eight runs in five innings of work.

Leading the run differential after day one, the Huskies now await this afternoon's seeding and should be poised to pick up one of the top seeds of the championship bracket.
