2004 Gulf Coast Invitational Top Stories
| ORANGE BEACH, Ala. - Oklahoma City University (11-5) came
down with a case of Griffin, Katelyn Griffin to be exact, as the home
run-slugging junior first baseman added her fifth moon shot of the Gulf
Coast Invitational to lift her Houston Baptist University Huskies (12-1) to
a 1-0 win. The game became an intense pitching duel between the Huskies' Laura Hess (four hits and seven strikeouts) and the Stars' Lara Vetoyanis (one run on three hits while striking out seven) with the former picking up the win. The Huskies will immediately turn around and face the Rams of the University of Mobile who dismantled their second straight opponent after defeating Faulkner University 11-4. Oklahoma City will face Faulkner University and will hope to evade becoming a top-5 casualty as the Eagles have defeated both 2nd-ranked Mobile (6-4) earlier in the tournament as well as 5th-ranked Thomas University (3-0) in the first round of the Golden Championship bracket. -30-
