2004 Gulf Coast Invitational Top Stories

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. - Third seeded Lindsey-Wilson College knocked off sixth seeded Southern Wesleyan University 6-1 Saturday night in the opening round of silver bracket play at the Gulf Coast Invitational played in Orange Beach, Ala.

Amanda Crowley threw a complete game pitching all seven innings, scattering just two hits and one unearned run while striking out one and picking up the victory.

Crowley also did it from the plate driving in the first Blue Raider run of the game with her RBI single in the top of the second inning giving Lindsey a 1-0 lead.

Whitney Frasier came off the bench in the sixth inning with a two RBI pinch hit single that ignited a five run inning to help stretch the Lindsey lead to 6-0 and leadoff batter Whitney Reynolds helped pace the offense with three hits of her own.

With the loss, Southern Wesleyan is eliminated from the tournament.  Southern Wesleyan went 1-2 in pool play before losing tonight’s game to Lindsey Wilson.

Lindsey Wilson moves on to play second-ranked University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma who defeated seventh seeded Culver-Stockton College 7-4.  The game will be played on Sunday, March 7, at 9 a.m.
