2004 Gulf Coast Invitational Top Stories

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. - Southern Wesleyan University came from behind to defeat Culver-Stockton College 7-5, in game three of the Gulf Coast Invitational held in Orange Beach, Alabama.

The Culver-Stockton Lady Wildcats were holding onto a 1-0 lead going into the top of the seventh when Southern Wesleyan's Julie Bozard drove in Janelle Hunton to tie the game.

The Warriors came back in the top of the eighth to produce six more runs and staved off a late bottom of the inning four-run rally by Culver-Stockton to secure the win.

Jami Ruble (2-for-3), Janelle Hunton (2-for-4 both of which were triples), Monica Wilkerson (2-for-4) and Gina Gossett (2-for-4) led the Warriors as they now improve to 7-7 on the year. Ashlee Frazier picked up the win, giving up five runs and six hits in eight innings of work.

Culver-Stockton's Christina Orf went 1-for-3 with two runs to lead the Lady Wildcats as they drop to 0-3 on the season. Amy Yakel takes the loss, giving up 13 hits and seven runs despite striking out five.

Culver-Stockton will play back-to-back games as they now must face 3rd-ranked Oklahoma City University in the 3 p.m. round of games.

Southern Wesleyan will have a two-hour break before having to play 14th-ranked Spring Hill College at 5 p.m.
