| ORANGE BEACH, Ala. - Sixth seeded Faulkner University could
only muster three hits against third seeded Thomas University, but took
advantage of each one and defeated the Night Hawks 3-0 Saturday night in
gold bracket action of the Gulf Coast Invitational played in Orange Beach,
Ala. Kelly Miller’s three-run homer in the top of the fifth inning provided all the runs they would need and propelled the Lady Eagles to an upset victory. Holly Miller went the distance for the Lady Eagles working all seven innings, scattering six hits and striking out five in recording the complete game shutout. Faulkner will now face the University of Mobile, winners over Spring Hill College 12-0, in a rematch from a game played earlier in the day. In that game, Faulkner scored six runs in the fifth inning in pulling the 6-4 upset victory over Mobile. The two teams will meet tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. Thomas University drops into the loser’s bracket and will face Spring Hill College tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. -30-
