ORANGE BEACH, Ala. - Thomas University upped its record to 12-1 on the season with a 3-2 victory over Lee University on a cold and foggy night at the Gulf Coast Invitational held in Orange Beach, Ala.

Tracey Avery pitched 6 2/3 innings allowing just two runs on six hits and striking out six batters in earning the victory.

Cathy Andrijaszyn picked up the save in relief retiring the final batter as Thomas improved to 1-0 in tournament action.

With two outs in the top of the seventh inning, Lee University's Jill Webb, who was 3-for-4 in the contest, grounded a ball through the left side of the infield keeping the Lady Flames hopes alive.

However, Andrijaszyn was immediately inserted for Avery and came right in and retired the next Flames' batter with a pop up to second base.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the third, Victoria Master homered to tie things up at 1-1.  One inning later, the Night Hawks scored two more and themselves enough cushion for the win

Thomas will now turn right back around and play the 7 p.m. game against Saint Gregory's who upset 22nd-ranked William Penn 5-1 earlier in the day.

Lee University finishes the first day of action at 0-2 after suffering a 9-0 loss to William Penn earlier in the day.
