2004 Gulf Coast Invitational Top Stories

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. - Thomas University rebounded from their first loss of the tournament last night to post a 9-3 victory over Spring Hill College Sunday afternoon in the semi-finals of the Gold Bracket Consolation round of the Gulf Coast Invitational played in Orange Beach, Ala.

Cathy Andrijaszyn worked all seven innings allowing just three runs on four hits, all coming in the sixth inning and  recorded six strikeouts in picking up the victory.

Yuruby Alicart led off the game with a long home run to give Thomas a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.  Alicart would finish the game with two hits and score three runs on the day.

Jennifer Byrd also collected two hits and two RBI as Thomas broke open a 2-0 game by scoring four runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth stretching their lead to 9-0.

Spring Hill rallied in the bottom of the sixth for three runs keeping the game alive for another inning but was unable to do anything in the bottom half of the seventh

With the loss, Spring Hill is eliminated from the tournament.

Thomas University will next face North Georgia College and State University today at 1 p.m. in the gold bracket consolation championship game.
