2004 Gulf Coast Invitational Top Stories

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. - Ashley Windmiller’s two-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning lifted William Woods University (5-4) to a dramatic 2-0 victory over University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma (USAO) Saturday afternoon at the Gulf Coast Invitational played in Orange Beach, Ala.

With the win, William Woods picks up its first victory of the tournament finishing pool play at 1-2.  USAO also finishes pool play with a 1-2 record.

Nicole Devenport threw a complete game shut-out allowing just four hits and no runs while striking out three in picking up the win.

With one out in the bottom of the sixth, Tracey Anderson singled giving the Lady Owls a base runner.  Just one batter later, Windmiller took a 1-2 fast ball deep and over the right field wall giving the Lady Owls the victory.

Both teams will await seeding to find out if they will play again at either 5 or 7 p.m.
