| ORANGE BEACH, Ala. - Kristina McNew clobbered a grand slam
over the centerfield wall in the top of the first inning as the Lady
Statesmen built up a 5-0 first inning lead and cruised to an 8-0 victory in
round one of pool play Friday afternoon at the Gulf Coast Invitational in
Orange Beach, Ala. William Penn (3-0) needed just five innings in order to close out Lee University and move on to their second game with Saint Gregory’s expected to begin at 3 p.m. Danielle O’Brien allowed just one hit and struck out four in five innings of work to earn the victory. Steph Christner led off the third inning with a solo home run of her own in helping to stretch the lead out to 6-0. Lee falls to 4-7 on the year and 0-1 in tournament action. The Lady Flames will next play No. 5 Thomas University at 5 p.m. in round two of pool play. -30-
